The NCAA has declared national champions in college soccer since 1959. Prior to this, unofficial champions were declared by the Intercollegiate Soccer Football Association (Later the ICAA). These were the result of polls and the opinion of the ISFA administrators and are HIGHLY subjective. In addition, the College Soccer Bowl was held from 1950-1952 in an attempt to decide a national champion on the field. However, the field for the Soccer Bowl was a mere four teams, and they were selected by highly subjective methods. For all practical purposes, it is impossible to say that there were true national college champions prior to 1959.
