The episode examines the first documented game of soccer or Association football played by women in the United States. The match took place at Central Park in San Francsico California on December 3, 1893 between the Collen Brawns and the Bonnie Lassies. I discuss how and why women’s participation in athletics increased in the late nineteenth century and describe the sporting culture of San Francisco.
