NORTH AMERICAN SOCCER FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Final Team Standings and Playoff Results
This was the second attempt to produce something greater than a major
regional soccer league, the first one to go beyond the US national borders.
The league got off to a good start in 1946, but acute financial losses
afflicted all but two teams and the league folded during the second season.
The 1947 season was somewhat complicated, and the plans changed during the
season. A spring session was held from April-June, and a fall season was to
be played during September and October, with all games counting in a single set
of standings. The fall session was very scattered with only a few games
being played, some teams having dropped out. A third Chicago team, the
Tornadoes planned to join for the fall session, but withdrew before playing.
All of this was to be the first half of a 1947-48 season, but the league
folded suddenly due to mounting financial difficulties. A two-leg championship
series decided the winner of the first half.
Scoring System: 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss.
