Steven Apostolov earned a Ph.D. in 2011 from the University of Paris.
His dissertation “Les hauts et les bas du soccer professionnel aux Etats-Unis à partir du cas du Massachusetts [The Highs and Lows of Professional Soccer in the United States through the Case of Massachusetts]” explored the long history of soccer in the Commonwealth. He has also published articles on Zinedine Zidane and Hristo Stoitchkov. Apostolov has taught courses on soccer history at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and Tufts University.
