American Soccer League
The ASL Metropolitan Division expanded south for its second season, adding Baltimore Canton as its 9th team. Some surprises were in store for the season, as Philadelphia Germans and Kearny Irish swapped places – 1st and last respectively! In a nearly unique occurrence in professional sports, the last place Philadelphia German-Americans surged to take the league title by a large margin, while the defending champions Kearny Irish fell to the cellar. What made this more unusual was the fact this was in a 9-team table, as opposed to the 4-5 team divisions so common nowadays.
Elsewhere in the Metropolitan Division, the New York Americans held on to second place, but finished 9 points behind the German-Americans. Hispano improved enough to finish in 4th place, with Brookhattan edging them by a point for third. The other major loser this season was the Kearny Scots, who fell from 3rd to 8th place. Lang of the new Baltimore Canton took the scoring title with 14 goals. Standings are not available for the New England Division, but the Pawtucket Rangers reached the finals of the National Challenge Cup, losing to St. Louis Central Breweries.

The US National Team
The Scotland National Team toured the United States in 1935, with two featured games being played against ASL All-Star squads unofficially representing the United States. The first match was held at the Polo Grounds in New York on May 19, 1935. The crowd of 25,000 was the largest to see a US soccer match since the Hakoah visit in 1926. Unfortunately, the US players were no match for the seasoned Veterans of Scotland. McEwen opened scoring for the United States, but Scotland scored 4 unanswered goals to take away a 5-1 victory. Scotland then continued its tour, racking up a consecutive 10 wins against US & Canadian clubs. On June 9, Scotland again played the ASL stars winning 4-1 in Newark on June 9, with Moorhouse scoring the only goal.
