Roger Allaway

I first met Roger Allaway in 2008 at the National Soccer Hall of Fame. At the time I was beginning my research into U.S. soccer history and formulating the project that would ultimately develop into the Soccer History USA podcast and this site.

Then as now, Roger has always been generous with his time and knowledge. After the closure of the Hall we remained in touch and our conversation for this podcast was recorded in April 2013 on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Roger was in town to deliver another batch of his research materials to UMass’s Special Collections and University Archives. Known as the Roger Allaway Soccer History Collection the materials will provide an invaluable resource for scholars of the American game. The soccer history collection adds to the Special Collections sports themed materials, including the vast archive of legendary sports agent Mark McCormack. The Mark H. McCormack Collection houses materials related to McCormack’s business International Management Group (IMG), whose clients included Arnold Palmer, Chris Everett and Pelé.
